Adults with missing, crooked, damaged or worn teeth often have more than one way to restore their dentition to full function and a confidant smile. I am able to provide options or a second opinion for complex dental care with common sense and the long term in mind. I believe a healthy mouth and smile is imperative for your overall well- being. I seek to develop trusting long term relationships…and care for your teeth…. for life.

Dr Nicholas Weightman - Full-time Dentist

Nick has over 20 years of experience in clinical dentistry and teaching since graduating from the University of Adelaide in 1996.

After meeting his partner in the Netherlands during a holiday, Nick sold his share of his practice in Blackwood, Adelaide in 2016 to pursue a desire to live, work and teach in Europe. Nick passed the Dutch Dental Registration procedure and was offered a position as a part time teacher and lecturer at the Academic Centre of Dentistry in Amsterdam in the departments of Dental Radiology and Dental Hygiene. Alongside working in private practice in Amsterdam, Nick was able further his professional development in the areas of prevention and diagnostic (3D) imaging.

Nick has always been open minded and the opportunity to live and work in Amsterdam, taught him to experience and respect several different cultures, philosophies and processes which broadened his horizons academically and personally.

Having said that, after 10 years of missing the Australian culture, He has just returned and has chosen Alice for friends, sunshine and a more relaxed lifestyle.

Patients have complimented him on his communication skills, empathy and patience to listen to and address their individual needs. He enjoys problem solving and thinking outside the box, whilst practicing preventive and minimum intervention philosophies. He also enjoys forming bonds with patients and it is very important for me have a good relationship with his work team and to look forward to his working day ahead.

Nick loves aspects of Dentistry such as periodontics, endodontics and simple oral surgery. He is fascinated by tooth wear, erosion and parafunctional changes to the teeth and how that affects oral function.

Nick is looking forward to work together with Alison and the team.

Dr Anand Patel-Visiting Dentist, specialising in Oral Surgery

I was born and raised in Fiji. As I finished high school, I was awarded a scholarship and attended university in Fiji. While there, I was awarded another scholarship. This scholarship is called “Aus Aid travel” and allowed me to study dentistry in Adelaide, South Australia. I graduated from the University of Adelaide in 1996 with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery.

After briefly working in Alice Springs in 1997, I returned back to Fiji where I resided and worked until 2008. During this period I established a private dental surgery from scratch.

Working in isolation in a developing country, I quite often felt the need and desire to keep up my knowledge and skills on par with my colleagues in first world countries. That desire took me to Kings College in London, in 2002. I started studying for a Masters degree and on completion, in 2008, I was awarded a Masters of Clinical Dentistry in Prosthodontics with Distinction from Kings College of the University of London.

I returned back to Australia in 2009 and arrived in Darwin in 2010. We set up and started our new life calling Darwin home and established the current surgery. It took one year to build but eventually, we got there.

In 2012, I decided I needed to return to my studies. This time I enrolled with Goethe University in Germany to study towards a Masters of Science in Oral Implantology. I successfully completed my thesis in 2015.

I have also had the good fortune of being able to undertake advanced implant surgery training at Anatomy School of Vienna Medical College, in Austria.

I have reconnected last year with Dr Nick with whom I studied with in Adelaide. I have since joined Alice Dental Associates on a fly in fly out basis to offer my surgical skills to the patients in Alice Springs.

Werner - Practice Manager

Werner arrived in Australia in March 2020 to visit his husband Dr Nick. When they decided to move from Amsterdam to Australia, Werner was supposed to go back and forth as he was still managing his retail business there. When the international borders closed Nick and Werner decided that Werner should stay in Australia and manage his business remotely.

Werner used to come into Alice Dental Associates when the country was first dealing with Covid, organising coffees and just keep staff and Dr Nick company during these stressful months. So when the position of Practice Manager became available, it was an easy decision for him to accept.

Since then he has sold his flower business and Nick and Werner purchased a small townhouse in Alice Springs. He thoroughly enjoys the outback lifestyle, which is very different to what he was used to in Amsterdam. Nick and him love to go out for a mountain bike ride or taking the Hilux for a drive!

He enjoys the contact with patients in the small community of Alice Springs. He is also very grateful for everything he has learned in the early stages of his new position and enjous being a part of the amazing team at Alice Dental Associates!
